This year, I went a little overboard in the amount of costumes that Jackson wore, but I couldn't help myself. Our first outing, Jax was dressed as a pirate (a stubborn pirate who wouldn't keep his hat on). We went to the East Moline Halloween Fest, but it was SO COLD and windy out that we only lasted a couple of blocks of walking around and skipped out on the parade.
That weekend, we went to Boo at the Zoo, which was quite the event. There were vendors handing out child friendly treats and coupons, tons of kids (and parents) dressed up in costume and lots of fun animals to see. When we pulled up to the zoo parking lot and saw the line that was nearly two blocks long, it was kind of a buzzkill for our fun family outing, but it was definitely worth the near hour that we had to wait, especially because it was a perfect fall afternoon. We had a great time at the zoo, with the highlight being the train ride at the end. On the way home, both Mickie and Minnie fell fast asleep before we had gotten out of the parking lot.
Next up on the Halloween festivities list was trick or treating on October 30th over in Grandma and Grandpa's neighborhood. The kiddos dressed up again and we made our way to Davenport. Jackson wanted no part of the trick or treating, as his stranger danger fear kicked in and he wasn't understanding why we were going to people's doors to ask for candy.

On Halloween, it was a windchill of 18 degrees, so we scrapped the firepit idea that we had of sitting outside and handing out candy. Jax started out as an Ewok and ended up as Superman while Abby braved the cold as Elsa from Frozen. Let's just say that the Ewok hat didn't stay on much past the two seconds that it took to get this photo. Maybe next year I'll only do one costume for the kiddos, but who am I kidding? Probably not.
