The highlights of August

In August, both Matt and I were crazy busy with work, but we definitely had some days on hold reserved for family time. Starting off the month, we went to Dubuque to meet the Paw Patrol.  We got there early and there were what seemed like hundreds of people that were squeezed into a meeting room.  Jax and Abby did get to meet each and every member of the Paw Patrol, but Jax was a little concerned and had to be holding my hand to give each of them a hug.
After the paws, we went to Galena so that we could have lunch and do a little shopping.  Because no one wanted to shop longer than the five minutes we spent in the candy store, Matt took the kiddos to the park while Papa read in the book store.
We got to ride on the tram in Dubuque - which I think was the true hilight of the trip for everyone (sorry Paw Patrol - we still love you).  The kiddos were full of questions on how it worked and loved going up and down the steep hill.
The last Monday in August we rented a pontoon boat on Lake George for the morning and Papa got to do what he had been waiting for since the day Jax was born - take him fishing! Jackson was super interested in the worms (see below - he's taking an up close look) and did enjoy it.  The downside, things weren't really hitting that day, so he got bored after a while and played matchbox cars.

On Saturdays in the summer, Matt has weddings, so they are always "Mommy/baby" days.  On a particular Saturday, we took Papa to Prospect Park for a picnic and had a lot of fun walking around the pond.  Love lazy summer days!!

Daddy surprised both Jax and I with a trip to the Botanical center the next morning for a train show.  Jax got to see trains, make trains and play with trains, which is pretty cool since they are pretty much his favorite thing on Earth.  There were dozens of little boys talking about trains and playing with each other - it was pretty adorable.

Another one of our many trips to the zoo - but this one was quite a bummer.  The train (which is of course Jackson's favorite part of his zoo experience) was shut down.  We had a terrible storm with tornadoes and a few trees were knocked over onto the tunnel that the train goes through.  Fortunately, they had the spray blower fans up, so that distracted him from being sad that we couldn't ride the train.

Some random moments of Aug -
Jackson's new train bed, a pic with his summer nanny, Talia and our first meeting of my new nephew, Colton James Bishop.  We were so excited to get to see Colton and have some baby time (okay, maybe that was more me than Jax) but he loved playing with Dayton, so it was a win - win.  LOVE these kiddos and so glad that they get to spend time together.

SCHOOL PICTURES!!  No, not in the traditional in school / gray backdrop kind of way, but in the tradition of taking pics of the kiddos before they start their year.  We took these in the back yard and had to snap some of them together.  Abby looks like a super model in her pics (thanks to her colored chapstick)!!

Rounding out the month are some daddy/Jax selfies and a couple of snapshots of the kiddos at the park.  Summer, we will miss you!! xoxo,
Karen
