Before and after - The family room

After living in our house for nearly a year (357 days to be exact) we finally have a finished back room.  We had such a large amount of work on our plate for this room that it kept getting pushed to the back burner, even though it's the room that we generally hang out in as a family the most.
Matt's arch nemesis was the brick fireplace and ultra high mantle in the family room and the old school wood burning fireplace (that in hindsight was a gateway to the mouse community in the Quad Cities offering an open invitation to hang out in our basement).  We started demo at the beginning of March with help from Dad Bishop.  He came over one night after work and within a half hour, he and Matt had the wooden shelves and cupboards torn out along with the brick mantle.  From there, the fireplace installers came in and got rid of the old unit, discovered and plugged up the mouse holes and installed the new wall unit.  The next day we had the dry wall guy come and finish off that wall and then Friday of that week we had the floor layers come to lay the new carpet.  We had to wait a week to paint the main wall because of the fresh construction, but we had a lot to do in the mean time to prep the room, so there was never a dull moment.
We got a new desk & chair for my main editing bay, got some shelves for an easy change out memory wall and hung the new curtains that we basically planned the entire room around.  Matt re-did all of the electrical in the room and hung a new ceiling fan (the old one was absolutely hideous).
We absolutely LOVE our new room and find ourselves spending a lot more time downstairs after the kiddos go to bed instead of immediately heading to watch TV in our room.

*Major props to Matt for working his butt off doing the bulk of the work on this room.
I helped paint and did all of the decorating stuff, but as far as the muscle of the job, Matt deserves the huge gold star.  Thanks, sweetheart! xoxo
